“This seminar was the most incredible seminar I have ever attended, either work or dog related! Frankly, I never had much interest in the grooming aspect of showing. It was a necessary part of the process of showing but not a part that I felt either knowledgeable or comfortable with. I began the weekend not even sure that I was blowing out my dog properly and left with the confidence of understanding how and why to do specific things.

Erik taught us to look at the dog as a sum of all the parts and to understand the reasons for doing what we do - and the reasons are NOT 1) because we've always done it that way, or 2) because so and so does it that way. Rather, you learn to look at your specific dog, keeping in mind your vision of the perfect golden retriever, and groom to that vision, always working the dog as a whole. He gives very specific instruction on how to groom the individual parts with an understanding that each dog may require different things. Grooming your dog is not a 'one size fits all' endeavor. It requires REALLY looking at what you are seeing and grooming accordingly, with an artist's eye and a subtle hand. If you were to leave the seminar with only one thing, it is that concept that will be most valuable; however, you will leave this seminar with many valuable skills and, most especially, a boost in confidence and a desire to strive for better skills.

One other important thing to note and something that was heartwarming to me was hearing Erik speak so lovingly about this breed that I am so enamored with. It was apparent that he truly appreciates their inherent nature and unique qualities.”
